LOS ANGELES (AP) - Matt Cain scattered five hits over six innings, Aubrey Huff and Freddy Sanchez drove in three runs each and the San Francisco Giants defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers 10-0 Saturday for their first win of the season.
Miguel Tejada added two RBIs for the defending World Series champions, who had committed five errors in dropping a pair of one-run games to the rival Dodgers. But they backed Cain with ample offense and clean defense to avoid equaling their worst start since moving to San Francisco in 1958.
Cain (1-0) struck out three and walked none, picking up where he left off last season as one of the Giants' most consistent starters.
Ted Lilly (0-1) gave up four runs and six hits in 4 2-3 innings, struck out three and walked one for the Dodgers.
Phillies 9, Astros 4
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Cliff Lee struck out 11 over seven impressive innings in his first game back with the Phillies.
A day after rallying against closer Brandon Lyon for a comeback win in the ninth, the Phillies roughed up starter Wandy Rodriguez.
The victory might be costly to the Phillies because center fielder Shane Victorino left with soreness in his left calf.
Lee (1-0) allowed three runs and four hits.
Rodriguez (0-1) allowed seven runs and nine hits in four-plus innings. Carlos Lee had three hits and four RBIs, falling a double short of the cycle.
Padres 11, Cardinals 3
ST. LOUIS (AP) - Clayton Richard (1-0) had two RBIs to match his career high without getting the ball out of the infield and pitched six solid innings for San Diego.
Albert Pujols homered on the 10th anniversary of his major league debut and Allen Craig, subbing for ailing Matt Holliday, had a two-run single for the Cardinals. St. Louis led 2-0 after one inning and 3-2 after three but Jake Westbrook (0-1) was knocked out after retiring only one of six batters in the Padres' six-run sixth.
Chase Headley had a career best-tying four RBIs, including a two-run homer in the ninth for the Padres.
Nationals 6, Braves 3
WASHINGTON (AP) - Rick Ankiel drove in three runs with a homer and squeeze bunt, Jayson Werth and Wilson Ramos each had three hits and the Nationals beat Atlanta.
In a game that included two rain delays totaling 87 minutes, Ankiel's two-run homer run highlighted a three-run third inning off Tommy Hanson (0-1). Ankiel put down his bunt in the seventh.
John Lannan (1-0) got the win, Washington's first of the season.
Cubs 5, Pirates 3
CHICAGO (AP) - Pinch-hitter Blake DeWitt delivered a two-out, two-run double that capped a five-run eighth inning Saturday as the Cubs rallied for a win.
Chicago's comeback against relievers Evan Meek (0-1) and Chris Resop was aided by a costly error on Pirates first baseman Lyle Overbay.
Cubs starter Carlos Zambrano left the game in the seventh with cramping in his right hand, one batter after he'd given up a leadoff homer to Garrett Jones that gave the Pirates a 3-0 lead.
Sean Marshall (1-0) got the victory with a scoreless eighth and Carlos Marmol pitched the ninth for his first save.
Pirates starter Paul Maholm pitched 6 2-3 shutout innings, giving up five hits.
Reds 4, Brewers 2
CINCINNATI (AP) - Scott Rolen hit a two-run homer in the first inning, eliminating the need for another dramatic Cincinnati comeback, and the Reds beat Milwaukee behind seven strong innings from left-hander Travis Wood.
The defending NL Central champions are 2-0 for the first time since 2005, when they swept an opening three-game series from the Mets.
Wood (1-0) allowed only a run on four hits, including Erick Almonte's solo homer.
Milwaukee got an uncharacteristically wild debut from Shaun Marcum (0-1), who tied his career high with five walks in 4 2-3 innings.
Mets 6, Marlins 4, 10 innings
MIAMI (AP) - David Wright's third hit of the game brought Jose Reyes home with the go-ahead run in the 10th, Willie Harris added a two-run single later in the inning and New York beat Florida.
Wright also homered for the Mets, who got a three-hit night from Josh Thole and two hits from Ike Davis.
Logan Morrison drove in two runs and Emilio Bonifacio had two hits for the Marlins, who jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the first inning before managing one hit over the next seven frames.
Francisco Rodriguez (1-0) got the win despite blowing a save chance by giving up three hits and a walk in the ninth for New York.
Ryan Webb (0-1) who faced three batters in the 10th - all of whom scored.
Rockies 3, Diamondbacks 1
DENVER (AP) - Lefty Jorge De La Rosa scattered three harmless singles and drove in a run before leaving in the sixth inning with a blister on his left middle finger, and Colorado beat Arizona.
With De La Rosa day to day, the Rockies' top two pitchers are now dealing with injuries. Ace Ubaldo Jimenez has a cracked cuticle on this right thumb that was the culprit in his shaky debut Friday and could force him to miss his next start.
De La Rosa (1-0), who missed two months last year with a freak tendon injury to the same finger, struck out five and walked one before he was replaced by Matt Belisle.
Belisle gave up one hit in 1 2-3 innings.
Daniel Hudson (0-1) took the loss after surrendering three runs on six hits over six innings. He also walked one and struck out five.
