YOUR OPINION: Candidates needed to run for City Council

Dear Editor: Our nation and our city are in need of strong, energetic leaders. With our struggling economy, threats to public safety and growing concerns about personal freedoms, the time for everyday citizens to step up and take the reins is now.

My time on City Council has been incredibly rewarding and I would encourage any citizen who feels the call to public service to throw their hat in the ring.

Taking the step to put your name on a ballot can be a little scary, but serving your neighbors and being a part of moving our great city forward is what really matters.

In the 2011 city elections, there will be at least three open seats on the council.

Many important issues will come before City Council in the next few years. Our city is made up of people with varied backgrounds and experiences and our Council should match that demographic.

I challenge the citizens of Jefferson City to take the time to reflect on your lives and how you might serve our community.

You just may find a seat on the council is where you belong.
