Sunday, November 28, 2010
With too much food to throw out but not enough to serve again, Betty Burnett developed a solution that resolved her concern and supports the community shelter.
Burnett, food service manager at the Missouri Highway Patrol Academy in Jefferson City, received permission in February from the patrol superintendent to organize a trial period in whcih leftover food that could not be served in the cafeteria is donated to The Salvation Army.

Great idea Betty! If we could convince the big grocery stores to show the same generosity we could largely stamp out hunger! I worked for Wal-Mart as a kid and the amount they throw out is staggering. I hope this works out for you!
