Gary Sinise to receive Truman award

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Actor Gary Sinise has been selected to receive the 2011 Harry S. Truman Good Neighbor Award.

The Harry S. Truman Good Neighbor Award Foundation announced Thursday that Sinise will receive the award in Kansas City on May 5. The award will mark Truman’s 127th birthday.

The foundation said in a release that Sinise was selected because of his work promoting understanding and his support of the military and veterans.

Sinise currently stars in the CBS television series “CSI: New York.” He was nominated for an Academy Award in 1994 for his role as Lt. Dan Taylor in the movie, “Forrest Gump.”

The Truman Good Neighbor Award has been given out every year since 1973.
