Vikings end Jays' season

WELDON SPRINGS - A different atmosphere turned into a different outcome for the Jefferson City Jays.

After two straight home playoff wins over Francis Howell, the Jays went on the road where the Vikings got a bit of revenge.

The fifth-ranked Vikings raced out to a 21-0 lead and then held on down the stretch to bounce the Jays out of the playoffs with a 28-14 win Friday night in their Class 6 Sectional game.

Jefferson City has been plagued with turnovers all season at the wrong time. Nothing changed against Francis Howell.

The Jays were looking to get into the game in the second quarter with the Vikings leading 14-0 and the Jefferson City at the Francis Howell 21. But when Jays quarterback Thomas LePage fumbled, Josh Brown of the Vikings recovered and returned it 75 yards for a score and a 21-point lead with 9:47 left in the half.

"It's kind of the way the season went," Jays coach Ted LePage said. "We had opportunity for a touchdown. It was a dropped pass and on the next play we fumble and it was seven points going the other way.

"That's kind of the way the season has gone. Every time we've fought for an opportunity, something has slipped up on us."
