St. Louis awaits decision on Democratic convention

ST. LOUIS (AP) - St. Louis officials expect to learn by early next month whether the city will host the 2012 Democratic National Convention.

Party officials have not offered a specific date when a decision would be announced.

St. Louis is among four finalists announced in June. The others are Minneapolis, Cleveland and Charlotte, N.C.

Democrats will nominate their presidential candidate the week of Sept. 3, 2012 - a week after Republicans do so in Tampa, Fla.

The nominating conventions are an economic boon that can bring millions of dollars to host cities.
