WASHINGTON (AP) - Andrew Gordon had a goal and assist for his first two NHL points, and the Washington Capitals earned their second straight victory by beating the New Jersey Devils 5-1 on Tuesday night.
Washington is enjoying a winning streak after snapping an eight-game losing streak with a victory at Ottawa on Sunday. John Carlson added a goal and an assist, and Michal Neuvirth made 35 saves.
The Capitals jumped back over Atlanta into first place in the Southeast Division.
The Devils (9-22-2), who have the second-worst record in the NHL, dropped their ninth straight road game and third overall. New Jersey got even at 1 when Patrik Elias scored a power-play goal 4:56 of the second period, but the Capitals took then took over.
New Jersey has scored only 10 goals in seven games. Martin Brodeur made 23 saves.
Sabres 5, Ducks 2
BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - Tyler Ennis scored two goals to lift Buffalo over Anaheim.
Ryan Miller, making his 11th straight start, earned his 199th NHL win. His shutout bid was spoiled when Corey Perry scored a power-play goal with 4:24 to go in regulation. Miller finished with 21 saves.
Craig Rivet had a goal and assist, Drew Stafford and Nathan Gerbe also scored, and Derek Roy and Jordan Leopold added a pair of assists each for the Sabres, who rebounded from consecutive losses to Florida and Tampa Bay over the weekend.
Perry added a second goal, and backup Curtis McElhinney made 37 saves for Anaheim.
The Ducks lost for the first time in five meetings with the Sabres. Anaheim went 2-3 on its road trip and will be off until after the Christmas break.
Blues 4, Thrashers 2
ATLANTA (AP) - Ty Conklin stopped 37 shots, Alexander Steen gave St. Louis the lead with a goal late in the second period, and the Blues beat Atlanta.
The Blues led 3-1 before Dustin Byfuglien scored for the Thrashers with 7:23 remaining.
Atlanta's best chance to pull even came when B.J. Crombeen was called for slashing with 1:58 left. The Thrashers pulled goalie Chris Mason for an extra skater, but an empty-net goal by Vladimir Sobotka in the final minute clinched the win for the Blues.
Brad Boyes and Alex Pietrangelo also scored for St. Louis.
Bryan Little scored Atlanta's first goal in the first period.
St. Louis won for only the fourth time in 13 games. Conklin, the backup to No. 1 goalie Jaroslav Halak, earned his fourth win of the season and second this week.
Blue Jackets 3, Flames 1
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Mathieu Garon made 29 saves in his debut as the Blue Jackets' No. 1 goalie, and Columbus snapped a four-game losing streak by beating Calgary.
Jakub Voracek, Jared Boll and Rostislav Klesla, scored for Columbus, which had only two wins in 12 games.
Olli Jokinen had the lone goal for Calgary, which lost its third straight.
Rookie Henrik Karlsson made 34 stops in his seventh outing of the season for the Flames, who have the worst road record in the Western Conference (5-11-3). Calgary has dropped five consecutive games and nine of 11 on the road.
Garon took over the starting job from the struggling Steve Mason.
Stars 5, Canadiens 2
DALLAS (AP) - Jamie Benn scored a short-handed goal, Brad Richards added a power-play tally, and surging Dallas beat Montreal.
Adam Burish, Karlis Skrastins and Loui Eriksson added goals for the Stars, 10-0-2 in their last 12 at home. Stephane Robidas had three assists, and Kari Lehtonen made 27 saves to help Dallas improve to 11-2-2 in its last 15.
Carey Price, starting for the 10th time in 11 games, allowed all five goals on 17 shots for Montreal.
Brian Gionta scored short-handed and Mathieu Darche added an even-strength goal for the Canadiens, 1-5 in their last six. Montreal played the second game of a seven-game trip.
Kings 5, Avalanche 0
DENVER (AP) - Jonathan Quick stopped 23 shots for his third shutout of the season, Dustin Brown had two goals and two assists, and Los Angeles snapped Colorado's six-game winning streak.
Rob Scuderi had a goal and an assist, Brad Richardson scored a goal, and Anze Kopitar and Drew Doughty had two assists apiece for the Kings.
Craig Anderson had 27 saves for Colorado, which was shut out for the first time this season. The last time the Avalanche were blanked was a 3-0 loss at Los Angeles on Feb. 13 - a span of 55 games.
Sharks 2, Oilers 1
SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) - Logan Couture and Dan Boyle scored 3:28 apart in the second period, leading San Jose past Edmonton.
Antero Niittymaki stopped 26 shots to beat the Oilers for the third time this season and give the Sharks their first three-game winning streak.
Dustin Penner scored for the Oilers, who lost for the third time in four games. Nikolai Khabibulin made 28 saves, but Edmonton's three-game winning streak on the road ended.
Couture netted his fourth goal in three games against fellow NHL rookie of the year contenders Jordan Eberle and Taylor Hall.
