Springfield theater faces foreclosure

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) - A historic theater in downtown Springfield faces foreclosure at the end of the month.

Backers of the Gillioz Theatre are pleading for donations to keep the Springfield landmark from being sold in a New Year's Eve foreclosure sale.

The Springfield News-Leader reports that Guaranty Bank of Springfield has filed a foreclosure notice over a $3.5 million payment that has been delinquent for more than two years.

Dave Roling, president of the Springfield Landmarks Preservation Trust, says a donor who wants to stay anonymous has agreed to pay half the loan if others will donate the rest.

The trust owns both buildings and directed a nearly $10 million renovation and restoration of the Gillioz, a 1,130-seat multilevel theater built in 1926.
