Donation pays for new nativity figures

ST. LOUIS (AP) - Figures of Mary, Joseph and the baby Jesus stolen from a Lutheran school nativity scene have been replaced, thanks to the kindness of a suburban St. Louis pastor.

George Hutchings provided money to complete the display after thieves took the figures last weekend at Hope Lutheran School. The replacement cost was estimated at $100, but Hutchings donated $200.

Hutchings is known as the "Shoe Man" because he leads efforts to collect old shoes that go to needy families in developing countries or are sold to pay for charitable work, such as water filtration in Haiti.

Hutchings told KTVI-TV he wanted to pay back the children at Hope Lutheran, who helped in his shoe drive last year.
