It took nearly four hours to reach the final vote, but Jefferson City’s Planning and Zoning Commission ultimately endorsed a proposed subdivision plan for the Missouri River bluffs just east of Hayselton Drive.

It took five separate votes to approve developer Dick Otke’s proposal to build 14 single-family homes along a new street, River Bluff Court, with an intersection with Hayselton Drive as the only access.

The multiple votes were needed because the proposal actually combines two property owners into one development.

The requests to rezone 4.3 acres from RS-3 Single Family to Planned Unit Development (PUD) zoning, then approve the subdivision project on 10.86 acres, were the only issue on the commission’s agenda.

Commissioners voted 6-2 to endorse the rezoning request, and 7-1 to approve the preliminary subdivision plan.

One of the votes, to cancel the previous PUD zoning for a previous condominiums project, was approved unanimously.

More than 70 neighborhood residents attended the meeting, with 21 of them speaking for a total of 90 minutes, giving commissioners various reasons to oppose the plan.

Their biggest concerns focused on the street going into the project, which is to meet Hayselton on a tight, hairpin curve that residents said would be unsafe.

Right now, a driveway connects Hayselton to Paul and Rayma Chinn’s home on the bluffs, which would become one of the 15 homes in the subdivision.

But that driveway would have to almost double in size to carry the subdivision traffic.

Easy: They work for the Chamber and the rich good ol' boys who control this town.

BTW: They are trying to pass a tax to get more of your money to build stuff they want. Don't let them have it. Vote NO.

I live on Hayselton. This was a complete scam. It was obvious the Council had already made up their minds. Planning and Zoning was definately for Mr Chin and Mr. Otke. There is an approved Private Road to this new subdivision off of W. Main. A home has already been removed to accommadate this Private Drive. Because of the costs they have invaded our quiet little neighborhood with no regard to our peaceful quiet enjoyment we all expect when we purchase our homes. Also the new STREET going into the subdiviion wil encraoch on home owners property. Laying the road as close to 10' to 20' to their homes and studios. Planning and Zoning says there needs to be a 25' set back betweek houses and roads. So tell me. Who do these people think they are. $$$$$$$$ And who do they really work for?? Discusting Karen

I used to roam those woods as a kid. I think I remember seeing endangered birds there.

Neighborhood whiners should buy the property if they want to control it. Who are they to say how a landowner can use his own land?

Whiny busybodies- that's what these Haselton people are. People need to learn to mind their own business around here and let people do what they want to.

Hey JClifer, Learn to Spell Hayselton for starters.Second you dont live in the area. Third this plan is taking away property from individuals in our area. Otke has had 3 unsuccessful plans for this area. We're whiny? Really? Otke and the followers of him are just sad that the original plan would cost too much money to have their own street off West Main, no worries we all know the proposed lots will always be the little step-sister of Hayselton regardless of size. Good luck with your plan, I will do all I can to make this as difficult as possible. Sorry your tight ass cant have your own entrance like the rest of the prestigious neighborhoods in Jefferson City. You get to bob and weave through our neighborhood!! NICE! Be original!

Okay...apparently we can call someone a tight ass, but not an i d i o t. And I can't say my son has to do ch ores because h - - e is a swear word. (In the world of censor filters.)

Sorry to hijack the thread...but when I saw that word goes thru when I have to edit darn near every post for NO bad words at all - it annoyed.

a couple of questions. 1.why not the street off West Main? 2. what are the three unsuccessful plans? 3. when was the property sold to the developers?

I never heard they were trying to take private land. I just heard they wanted to develop some land they purchased. If they are trying to take private land, then I would tell them to pound sand. They got the money- tell them to by out the neighborhood at twice its value.

Not sure about all your other drivel and insults. I've been down your street several times, and the homoaners who park their cars all over the street make it pretty hard to drive through there. If I lived there. i would have to have a garage. I'm not leaving my car sitting out on the street all night for vandals to mess with it, or other drivers to run into it.

JCLifer why dont you suggest to Mr Otke that you would like their new street in your neighborhood it is the same stuff you complain about all the time. Chamber, HBA, Planning and Zoning, and hopefully not our council. Rob

JCLifer, About Mr Otke, call your councilman, most of these people at planning and zoning are with Mr Otke. They would not even take time to think about it before they voted. What ashame! Rob
