Bond, McCaskill forge bipartisanship over Twain

Missouri Sens. Kit Bond and Claire McCaskill have found some bipartisan agreement thanks to Mark Twain.

Bond, a Republican who is retiring, and McCaskill, a Democrat, have co-sponsored a resolution honoring Missouri native Samuel Clemens, who wrote under the pen name of Mark Twain.

Tuesday was the 175th anniversary of his birth. This year also marks the 100th anniversary of his death and the long-awaited publication of his autobiography.

McCaskill said she often draws upon Twain's wisdom. Bond called him a "true American treasurer."

Samuel Clemons was born in Florida, Mo., and raised in Hannibal and often drew upon his Missouri roots in his writings.
