Lincoln women come up just short
It was a record-breaking start Thursday night for the Rogers State women's basketball team. The Hillcats broke an MIAA record with 37 points in the first quarter. But they still barely hung on for an 81-79 win against the Lincoln Blue Tigers at Jason Gym.

MIAA won't hold postseason event in Kansas City
The MIAA basketball tournaments will not be played in Kansas City this season. The conference announced Thursday, due to COVID-19 restrictions regarding indoor events in the city, the postseason tournaments will not be played at Municipal Auditorium.

Helias achieves short-term goals in win against Sedalia S-C
There were specific things Helias coach Garrett Wiggans wanted his Lady Crusaders to focus on Wednesday night. "Just stuff we've worked on in practice, the basics: transition, half-court offense and half-court defense," he said. "The message before the game was, 'How well can we do those things?'" As it turns out, pretty well.

Capital City boys struggle in second half, fall to Hermann
The 3-pointers came in bunches in the first half for the Capital City Cavaliers. But points of any kind were hard to come by after halftime. The Hermann Bearcats held the Cavaliers to just 12 points in the second half Tuesday, rallying from a 10-point halftime deficit to win 57-44 at Capital City High School.

Helias girls fall to Boonville in overtime
Helias coach Garrett Wiggans was pleased to see his Lady Crusaders rally from a 21-point deficit Saturday night. But that doesn't erase the frustration of falling behind by 21 points in the first place. "What we do in practice, and what we preach, is starting fast and having energy," Wiggans said after Helias' 72-68 overtime loss to the Boonville Lady Pirates at Rackers Fieldhouse.

Capital City wrestling splits duals with Hickman, Smith-Cotton
It was a tough night individually for the Capital City wrestling team, but the Cavaliers still came away with a 1-1 record in dual competition Tuesday night at Capital City High School. Capital City won just four head-to-head matchups, ending the night with a 62-18 loss to Hickman and a tie at 42 against Sedalia Smith-Cotton, which the Cavaliers won due to tiebreaker.

Lincoln men 5-0 at home after win vs. Fort Hays State
The Lincoln men's basketball team continued to defend its home court at Jason Gym, beating an MIAA team that had a win against a Division I opponent on its resume. The Blue Tigers improved to 5-0 at home with Saturday's 76-64 victory against the Fort Hays State Tigers.

With fan restrictions at arenas, there won't be much of a home-court advantage this season in MIAA basketball.
But Lincoln coach John Moseley firmly believes having the home-court advantage Thursday night made a big difference for the Blue Tigers.

The Lincoln women's basketball team got the shots it wanted to take Thursday night. It just took a little too long for those shots to finally find the bottom of the net.
Lincoln shot 2-of-15 from the floor in the first quarter, falling behind early in a 68-53 loss to the Nebraska-Kearney Lopers at Jason Gym.

Blair Oaks wrestling goes 3-0, ends with win vs. Capital City
With five matches remaining in their dual Tuesday against the Blair Oaks Falcons, the Capital City Cavaliers needed a pin in each match to rally for a win. The Cavaliers gave it their best shot, but Blair Oaks held on for a 44-31 win to finish its home quad-dual with a 3-0 record.

Helias holds off Jefferson City in back-and-forth battle
It truly felt like a rivalry game Wednesday night at Fleming Fieldhouse.
Neither the Jefferson City Jays nor the Helias Crusaders led by more than six points in the finale of the Joe Machens Fantastic Four Tournament. After all, there were a total of eight ties and 21 lead changes in the 32-minute contest.

McCluney's 3-pointer lifts Father Tolton past Helias
The Father Tolton Trailblazers defeated the Helias Crusaders on a buzzer-beating 3-pointer. This time, it wasn't by a Porter. Tre McCluney had a wide-open look from 3 on the right wing in the closing seconds, swishing the ball through the net with about a second remaining. McCluney's 3 gave the Trailblazers a 52-49 win Tuesday on the second day of the Joe Machens Fantastic Four Tournament at Fleming Fieldhouse.

Helias boys down Blair Oaks with big third quarter
The Helias Crusaders already knew they were starting Monday's game against the Blair Oaks Falcons at a disadvantage. The Falcons have 6-foot-9 junior Luke Northweather, and the Crusaders couldn't come close to matching his height. So when the second half began, Helias decided to play to its strength and speed up the game.

The Helias Crusaders would like nothing more than to post an undefeated record in the month of December. To do that, they would have to win three games in three days in the Joe Machens Great 8 Classic at Fleming Fieldhouse.

Helias sprints to victory against Lift for Life
Lift for Life came to Rackers Fieldhouse wanting to run up and down the court Monday night. That's exactly what the Helias Crusaders wanted. Helias showed off its athleticism, keeping pace with the fast-paced Hawks, and the Crusaders knocked down plenty more shots than their opponent in a 77-49 victory.
