Lester Perkins
PERKINS
Lester Marvin Perkins, age 92, of Holts Summit, Missouri, passed from this life into the presence of the Lord Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City.
Lester was born in Columbia, Missouri, on February 22, 1932, to his parents, Alfred King Perkins and Edna Mae Bradshaw Perkins. Moving back and forth with his family several times between the Columbia and Kansas City areas, he finally settled in Rocheport, Missouri, where he would meet the love of his life, Lola Lee Davis. Lester and Lola were united in marriage on April 30, 1951, in Rocheport.
Lester and Lola lived in Columbia until moving to Jefferson City in 1963. Lester spent most of his working life as a sheet metal worker and eventually retired from Harold G. Butzer Mechanical Contractors and Engineers in 1993, where he had worked for 33 years. After 70 years of marriage, Lola preceded Lester in death on December 11, 2021.
Lester received Jesus Christ as his Savior at 16 years of age and lived a life of strong, steady faith throughout the years. He was a devoted spiritual leader for his family and never wavered in his devotion to the Lord. He was a longtime member of First Assembly of God in Jefferson City where he served as deacon and in the children’s ministries. He loved the people of God and the house of the Lord.
Lester was a man of exceptional abilities and many passions. He was a talented artist, producing beautiful oil paintings for which he would win many local art awards. He enjoyed collecting stamps, coins, antique postcards, depression glass, flower frogs, Hot Wheels and Matchbox cars, Western novel series and more. He loved many styles of music and played guitar and saxophone for worship services for many years. He enjoyed fishing and spending time in the mountains during his younger years and sitting on the front porch with Lola and family members in his later years. He loved to laugh and tease and had a wonderful sense of humor to the very end of his life. He remained independent in his final years, living in his home, driving about, and enjoying lunch with friends almost every day at Mel’s or the Summit Cafe. Lester’s two greatest joys in life were his Lord and his large and growing family.
Lester is survived by three sons, David Perkins (and wife Brenda Sue), Nathan Perkins (and wife Sally), and Lowell Perkins (and wife Brenda Gail); by one daughter, Lisa Luebbert (and husband Doug); by his grandchildren, Michael Perkins (and wife Crystal), Renae Melton (and husband Adam), Jeremy Perkins, Stephanie Jahnke (and husband John), Adrienne Harlan (and husband Justin), Tyler Luebbert, Jordan Perkins (and wife Sarah), Whitney Luebbert, Austin Perkins (and wife Jessica), and Carter Luebbert (and wife Abigail); and by 16 great-grandchildren, Thatcher, Meara, Lola, Tina, JJ, Sarah, Micah, Joshua, Lucy, Jasmine, Micah, Henry, Eva, Naomi, Zeal, and Meleana.
In addition to his wife Lola, Lester was preceded in death by his son, Joel Perkins.
