Melvin W. Schulte, 85, of Jefferson City, Missouri, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 7, 2024.
Melvin was born on August 5, 1938, in Mary’s Home, Missouri, a son of the late Richard and Katie (Kempker) Schulte.
He met the love of his life in the seventh grade and on August 29, 1959, Melvin married Dolores Ann (Berendzen) Schulte in Mary’s Home, Missouri. For more than 64 years, Mel has been the head of a home full of love and true partnership. Spending time with family was his greatest joy.
Mel loved being outdoors - grooming his yard, tending his garden, watching sunsets, and most of all, preparing barbecue for family dinners. His barbecue chicken was unmatched.
He was a member of the St. Peter Catholic Church, Holy Name Society, Knights of Columbus, and the American Legion. He was a master printer and technician of large printing presses. He was proud of his work with the Missouri State Printing Center, as well as, the many years spent with AM International. He also served in the Missouri National Guard.
In addition to his wife, Dolores, Melvin is survived by his sons, Donald (Carolyn) Schulte of Berthoud, Colorado, and Douglas Schulte of Jefferson City; his three grandsons, Nicholas (Kerry) Schulte of Boulder, Colorado; Brett (Emily) Schulte of Austin, Texas; Alexander (Polly) Schulte of Oceanside, California; and his six great-grandchildren, Rowan, Quinn, June, Campbell, Madeline, and Eric. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters, Dorothy Mae (Fred, deceased) Lueckenhoff; Pat (Betty) Schulte; Patsy (Giles, deceased) Bax; Jim (Mary Alice) Schulte; R.J. (Gloria) Schulte. He is also survived by sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Bill (Catherine, deceased) Kliethermes; Ann (Jim, deceased) Berendzen; Betty (Bill, deceased) Berendzen; Tom (Maria) Berendzen; Carol (Dan, deceased) Berendzen; Dottie (Ed) Kempker; Darlene (Ron, deceased) Wallis; Rosanna (Bill) Weidinger; Marsha (Denny, deceased); Mary Jo (Ron, deceased) Fox; and many special nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents, as well as, brother, Marvin Schulte and sisters, Marcella Kish and Catherine Kliethermes.
Visitation will be 9:00-10:00 a.m., Monday, February 12, 2024, at St. Peter Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, February 12, 2024, at St. Peter Catholic Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Capital Projects, St. Peter Catholic Church Maintenance Fund, or CCRSI, Inc.
