Edwina (Baldwin) Peterman, 100, of California, Mo., passed away on Saturday, March 30, 2024 at JC Manor in Jefferson City, Mo.
She was born on September 16, 1923 in California, Mo., the daughter of Cleon Edward Baldwin and Jessie Mae (Meyer) Baldwin, both of whom preceded her in death.
She was a 1941 graduate of Aurora High School in California, Mo. After graduation from high school she was employed as secretary to the Moniteau County Superintendent of Schools whose office was located in the courthouse. Edwina especially enjoyed this job because she got to visit all 51 rural schools and the five public schools in Moniteau County.
She was later married on December 23, 1950 at the First Christian Church in California, Mo., to Melvin L. Peterman, who preceded her in death on March 27, 2018.
Edwina volunteered and worked for the Woodplace Library for many years. She was a lifetime member from the age of 13 at the First Christian Church, where she was involved with the Sunday school program, choir and youth group. She was always willing to lend a helping hand at the church with any duties. She was a devoted mother and grandmother and she loved spending time with family and especially her grandchildren. She was also a great cook and baker. She enjoyed preparing family meals (with great desserts), especially around the holidays. All the grandchildren loved her chocolate pudding and cookies. Edwina enjoyed reading, word searches and music. She was a member of the chapter GL PEO for over 70 years.
Survivors include one son, Ken Peterman and his wife Tammy of Prairie Village, Kan.; two daughters, Barbara Gahagan and her husband John of Jefferson City, Mo., Kathy Meller and her husband Mark of Lohman, Mo.; four grandchildren, Emily Allison and her husband Ben of Prairie Village, Kan., Claire Sutherlin and her husband J.C. of Prairie Village, Kan, Cyrus Meller and wife Kelsey of Ashland, Mo., Jacob Meller of Columbia, Mo.; and six great-grandchildren, Margaret Allison, Patrick Allison, Anna Allison, Charlie Sutherlin, Paul Sutherlin and Logan Jean Meller.
She was preceded in death by an infant child, Linda Lee Peterman; brother, Richard Earl Baldwin; and sister, Virginia Mae Hert.
Visitation will be held on Friday, April 5, 2024 from 11:00 a.m..- 12 Noon with the funeral service following at 12 Noon, all at the First Christian Church in California, Mo. Interment will be at the Crown Hill Cemetery in California, Mo. Officiating will be Pastor Melanie Hauser.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Moniteau County Library or the First Christian Church in California, Mo.
