Lora Jean Lee, age 96, of Holts Summit, Mo., passed away on Sunday, November 26, 2023 at The Timbers Assisted Living.
She was born on December 27, 1926 in Jefferson City, Mo., the daughter of Homer Simeon and Mary Gladys (Garnett) Bunch.
She was married on November 19, 1966 in Jefferson City, Mo. to Miles Elgin Lee, who preceded her in death on May 2, 1987.
Jean was a 1944 graduate of Brentwood High School and later graduated from Moody Bible Institute, Chicago, Illinois, in 1949. She went on to serve with her husband as the first Mission Service Corps appointees of the Southern Baptist Convention in Wisconsin from 1977-1981.
Jean worked in various capacities with Rock Hill Baptist Church, Overland Baptist Church, and Jeff City’s own, First Baptist Church. While a member there, she served for 16 years as the accompanist for the Friendship Singers under the direction of Rod Maples. Both Rod and Doyle Sager were dear friends to her. Jean was regarded for her dedication in fund raising with Missouri Baptist College and her work with the Missouri Baptist Convention.
Jean was a creative woman and her skill for playing the piano, organ and trombone were a blessing to the many churches and organizations she was a cherished part of. She exercised her green thumb tending her garden and loved to wind down with a good book. Some of Jean’s favorite memories were of occasions including family. Holiday dinners were a great excuse for her to showcase her talents in the kitchen and she never passed up an opportunity to spend time with her family.
Jean was passionate about her faith and her family. She left these final words to be shared: “Heaven in my destiny. The glorious dwelling place of God and all the believers who have gone before me. I’ll have unlimited energy to serve Christ. We’ll all be at peace, joyful, and active once again.”
Survivors include her nephews, Stephen Bunch of Richmond, Va., and Paul Bunch (wife, Ling) of Columbia, Mo.; and her great and great-great nieces and nephews.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her brother, Gaylord Homer Bunch; and niece, Dottye Bunch.
To honor Jean’s wishes, her body will be donated to the Anatomy Department at the University of Missouri Columbia. Inurnment will be held at a later date at the Centertown Cemetery.
