Evelyn May Johnson-Ousley, 87, of Jefferson City, Mo., went home to be with her Lord, on Tuesday, November 28, 2023.
She was born August 8, 1936, in West Plains, Missouri to Elijah Otto and Cora (Goble) Good, who both preceded her in death.
She was a graduate of West Plains High School. After graduation, she moved to Jefferson City, where she started her career with Division of Employment Security (DES). She retired as a Tax Supervisor from DES with 36 years of service on December 1, 1995.
On April 12, 1958, she was married to Stanley David Johnson, who preceded her in death on June 27, 1999. They shared 41 years together. On September 2, 2000, Evelyn married John Ousley, who also preceded her in death on November 20, 2019.
Evelyn was a woman of strong faith. She was a member of Concord Baptist Church. Through the years, Evelyn served in various positions within churches she attended including Sunday School teacher, organist/pianist, Vacation Bible School Director, and the church choir to name a few. She shared her love of Christ with everyone she knew. Evelyn was a very talented quilter. She was known for her beautiful creations with family and friends. Evelyn also loved to travel. She would proudly tell you she’s seen 49 of the 50 states. As time went by, her travel became taking trips to Branson, with her most recent one in October to see Queen Esther at Sights and Sounds Theater. There were several “pit stops” along the way to various quilt shops she loved.
Survivors include: three sons, Michael Johnson and his wife, Debbie, Donald Johnson, and his wife Brenda, both of Centertown; Russell Johnson, and his wife Pam of Grandby, Mo.; one daughter, Cori May and her husband, Eric of Linn, Mo.; seven grandchildren: Jessica (Jason) Crum, Meghan (Marc) Rackers, Braden Johnson, Ariel (Daniel) Luebbert, Taylor (George) Otto, Kyle May, and Madilyn May; eight great-grandchildren: Eli, Drew, Trinity, Emmett, Amelia, Josie Mae, Matt, Emersyn, and was anticipating her ninth great-grandchild, due in February, with great joy and excitement; two sisters, Faye (Jack) Kaufmann of Centertown, and Rose Ann (Bob) Riley of West Plains, Mo.; two sisters-in-law, Jana Faye Johnson, Morris, Ill., and JoAnn Johnson, Centertown; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and spouses, Evelyn was preceded in death by three brothers and their wives: Ed (Roberta) Good, Charles (Nondes) Good, and Paul (Erma Jean) Good; and one niece, Karen Lambert. Visitation will be on Monday, December 4, 2023 from 10:00 a.m.-12 noon with the service immediately following all at the funeral home. Officiating will be Rev. Greg Morrow. Burial will be at the Centertown Cemetery.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Concord Baptist Church or Gideons International c/o the funeral home.
