Anthony Michael "Tony" Vrana, age 79, of Hubert, North Carolina, formerly of Vienna, passed from this life October 25, 2021, in Carolina East Medical Center, New Bern, North Carolina. He was born June 12, 1942, at New Brighton, Pennsylvania, a son of Michael J. and Helen (Koczur) Vrana. On March 6, 1964, at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Tony entered active federal service in the United States Air Force, and served until March 5, 1968, when he was honorable discharged at Mather Air Force Base, California, at the rank of Sergeant E-4. A man of excellent character, his "Honorable Discharge" is a testimonial of honest and faithful service to his country during the Vietnam era. He was united in marriage April 26, 1986, at Sharpsburg, Georgia, to the former Miss Janette Marie Baker, who preceded her husband in death on July 16, 2009. During his working life, Tony was employed as a Computer Technician for United Airlines until his retirement. He and Janette moved to rural Dixon and near her parents for retirement, where they enjoyed many years together. Tony was a member of Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, Vienna; the Knights of Columbus, 13178 Visitation Council, Vienna; the Knights of Columbus, 2811 Msgr. Ralph G. Kutz P.A.S. Fourth Degree Assembly, Westphalia; and the Paul A. Hasenbeck Memorial American Post 317, Freeburg. During his retirement years, he referred to his activities as "puttering around", and you can rest assured, he did a lot of puttering. Tony enjoyed gardening, fishing, his dogs, his annual trip to get Pecans, and especially traveling the world with the Maries County Bank Memory Makers. After moving from the local area, Tony loved living on the East Coast, being able to see the ocean, and enjoying nature by feeding the ducks and fish. Those left to celebrate the life of Tony include: His cousin as his sister, Sandy Phillips of Swansboro, North Carolina; her sons as nephews, Aaron Phillips of Swansboro, North Carolina and Brett Phillips of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; and other cousins, relatives, friends, and especially members of his Memory Makers family and his Brother Knights. In addition to his wife, Janette, Tony was also preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Helen Vrana; his brother, Edward Vrana; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Glen and Charlotte Baker.
