Delmar "Bud" Emil Picker, age 95, of Jefferson City, departed this life on Sunday, February 27, 2022, at Mesa, Arizona. He was born on April 17, 1926, at Paydown, in Maries County, Missouri, the son of Harold "Hal" Emil and Flora "Lena" Evalena (Elrod) Picker. Bud was united in marriage on August 22, 1953, at Freeburg, to the former Miss Rita Mae Holterman, and to this union, three children were born. On March 15, 1945, at Jefferson Barracks, Missouri, Bud entered into active federal service in the Army of the United States and served until March 11, 1946, when he was honorably discharged at Camp Atterbury, Indiana, at the rank of Private. During his military career, Bud was trained in medical equipment maintenance through the Medical and Surgical Course at Wakeman General Hospital at the St. Louis Medical Depot. He was awarded and entitled to wear the American Theater Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal. A man of excellent character, Bud's "Honorable Discharge" is a testimonial of honest and faithful service to his country. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Jefferson City; the Hillbilly Rollers Travel Club, Springfield, experiencing travel adventures all over the United States, Alaska, Newfoundland, and other areas for 38 years; and a founding member and first president of the Freeburg Lions Club. Bud thoroughly enjoyed playing golf as well as liking to fish and play pool. During his working life, he was first employed in Kansas City then in Jefferson City by the Missouri Pacific Railroad Company for three years; followed by five and one-half years with the Missouri Highway Department in Bridge Design; and concluding his career with the founding of his company, Groner and Picker Consulting Engineers, Jefferson City, in 1963, where he remained employed until his retirement in 1992. Those left to mourn the passing of Bud include: His devoted wife, Rita Picker, of the home in Jefferson City; his children, Susan S. York of Jefferson City, and Steven Picker and husband Brian Underwood of Pensacola Beach, Florida; his grandsons, Nicholas York and wife Katherine, and Michael York and wife Jamie of Washington, Missouri; his great-grandsons, Conan York, Roman York and Lewis York; nephews; nieces; and other relatives and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by a son, Gregory Douglas Picker on May 23, 1977; his father, Hal on July 2, 1976; his mother, Lena on November 3, 1987; and his sisters, Gladys Elnora Honse on June 12, 1981, and Goldia M. Picker on July 3, 1995. Visitation for Mr. Bud Picker will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. on Monday, March 7,2022, in the Freeman Chapel, 915 Madison Street, Jefferson City, and from 10:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 8, 2022, in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 1206 East McCarty Street, Jefferson City. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Mr. Bud Picker at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 8, 2022, in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 1206 East McCarty Street, Jefferson City, with the Rev. Tony Onyeine and Rev. John Groner as concelebrants. Military honors to follow the recessional outside in front of the church. Immediately following the funeral service for Bud, the Picker family extends an invitation to all in attendance to share a meal with them in the Immaculate Conception Church Hall. Private family inurnment for Bud will be in the Resurrection Cemetery, Jefferson City, with his honorary pallbearers being Gregory Picker, Brain Underwood, Nicholas York, and Michael York.
