Dorothy Jean Gretlein, 93, of Jefferson City, Missouri, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 23, 2022, with her family by her side. She was born on July 7, 1929, in Jefferson City, the daughter of the late Floyd and Clara (Gerhardt) Manning. Dorothy was united in marriage to Henry "George" Gretlein on May 16, 1947, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Jefferson City. She was a 1947 graduate of Cole R-V High School. For many years she drove a school bus for the Cole R-V school district and was an after school childcare supervisor for Trinity Lutheran School. She enjoyed sewing, was an excellent cook and loved to play softball. Most of all she was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who cherished memories made with her family. Dorothy is survived by her sons, David Gretlein (Peggy) and Richard Gretlein (Shirley); daughter, Patsy Hoeferlin (Tom); grandchildren, Cory Gretlein, Ryan Gretlein, Ashley Kyle, Chad Griggs, Angie Hughes and Tanya Twehus; 15 great-grandchildren and four great-greatgrandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, George; son, Henry "Sonny" Gretlein III; and brothers, Earl and Willard Manning. Friends will be received on Saturday, September 3, 2022 from 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church. Funeral service will follow at 12:00 p.m. with Pastors Sam Powell and Jesse Schlie officiating. Interment will be in Hawthorn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church.
