Lynda Mae Stubblefield, age 74, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away Monday, August 15, 2022, at SSM Health St. Mary's Hospital. Lynda was born on October 26, 1947, in Springfield, Mo., the daughter of Jack R. and Hildred Drusilla "Dru" (Gray) Kirby. She was married on June 12, 1971, at the East Avenue Baptist Church in Springfield, Mo., to Donald Stubblefield, who survives at the home. After graduating from Hillcrest High School in Springfield, Lynda went on and received her Bachelor's degree in Education from Southwest Missouri State University. Lynda later received her Master's degree in English education. While working on her Master's degree, Lynda began her teaching career with Adult Basic Literacy (ABL) and taught for a year at Waynesville High School. After getting married, Lynda taught for five years in Conway, Mo., where she picked up a second teaching certification in Driver's Education. In 1976, Lynda moved to Jefferson City where she began her 32-year career at Jefferson City High School. She was an English teacher and Driver's Education Instructor until her retirement in 2008. She was named the "Outstanding Drivers Education Teacher" by the Missouri Driver's Education and Safety Association. She was proud to help revise the curriculum for the Driver's Education Program twice through the Missouri University Extension Center. Lynda and her husband, Don, could always be seen at sporting events and Lynda helped as a scorekeeper for many of the high school teams. Lynda kept score for girls' basketball, girls' volleyball and all of the Jay's track meets. For several years, Lynda also coordinated the school tutors for the sick or injured students. After retiring from the JCPS, Lynda became a volunteer for the Missouri State Archives working on projects such as scanning all of the Missouri Supreme Court cases from 1812 to the completion of the Civil War. Her most recent project was digitizing historical photographs of inmates for the Department of Corrections. Lynda found strength and comfort in her faith and was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Lynda never missed an opportunity to teach and for 20 years had the privilege of teaching Sunday school to second graders. Lynda especially loved to spend time with her family and watching her daughter play the cello and dance. She relished the time she spent with her granddaughter's dancing and making music. She will also be remembered for her generosity of baking for others and dropping off treats for friends to lift their day. Lynda is survived by: her loving husband of 51 years, Don; daughter, Rose Mary Hosé (Greg) of Downers Grove, Ill.; brother, John Kirby (Michelle) of Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.; two granddaughters, Evelyn and Hannah Hosé of Downers Grove, Ill.; brother-in-law, Blaine Stubblefield of Springfield, Mo.; two nieces, Kendra and Kiersten Kirby, both of Calif.; and several cousins.
