Joseph Otto Grothoff, 48, of Omaha, Neb., passed away on Wednesday, July 27, 2022, at Bergen Mercy Hospital, Omaha. Joe was born August 22, 1973, in Jefferson City to the late Anna (Giesing) Grothoff and Steven Grothoff of Jefferson City. In 1991, he received his high school diploma from St. Thomas Aquinas Seminary in Hannibal. Joe enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1993. He proudly served his country for four years and was a member of the Marine Corps League, Samuel F. Gearhart Detachment. On March 28, 2009, Joe married Stacy Starke at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Jefferson City. While working for Scholastic, Inc. Joe took college classes from Columbia College, graduating with two Bachelor degrees in 2014. In 2018, Joe and Stacy moved to Omaha, Neb. seeking advancement opportunities within Dillons/Kroger. Joe worked for Gerbes store #118 in Jefferson City, Mo. and transferred to Bakers store #319 in Omaha. He was currently a fuel center clerk at Bakers store #320 in Omaha, Neb. Joe was a devout Chiefs and Cardinals fan and always kept up with Missouri sports. Nothing would make Joe happier than when he was with family….especially during the holidays. He will be remembered for his laughter, wit and the pride he had for his country. Survivors include his wife, Stacy and son Dakota of Omaha; father, Steven of Jefferson City; his sister, Becky (Steve) Schaefer of Jefferson City; mother and father-in-law, Robert and Lawana Starke of Holts Summit; brother-in-law, Robbie (Kelley) Starke of Oklahoma; sister-in-law, Ashley (Brandon) Wilde of St. Elizabeth; and extended family. He was preceded in death by his mother, Anna; sister, Stephanie Ann; and his grandparents. Visitation will be Friday, August 5, 2022 from 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. at the Trimble Funeral Homes, 3210 N. Ten Mile Dr., Jefferson City. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter Catholic Church, Jefferson City. Father Donald Antweiler will officiate. Burial services with military honors will be conducted at Resurrection Cemetery.
