Dewey Douglas Whetstone

Dewey Douglas "Doug" Whetstone, 73, of Jefferson City, Missouri, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, April 5, 2022, at Capital Region Medical Center. He was born on July 11, 1948, in Independence, Missouri, a son of the late Dewey Roland and Iris Clementine (Cairns) Whetstone. He was united in marriage to Kay Irons in St. George, Utah on February 14, 1993. Doug was a graduate of Lakewood High School in Lakewood, Colorado. Soon after graduation, he joined the United States Air Force for which he proudly served for 22 and a half years. During his time in the service, he worked as a disaster preparedness supervisor for 16 years, followed by nearly six years as an automatic flight control system technician. He was fortunate to serve his country in multiple locations around the world including, Alaska, England, Thailand, and Crete. Post retirement from the Air Force, Doug worked in building maintenance for the city of St. George, Utah for 19 years before fully retiring. He enjoyed model railroading, taking long motorcycle trips with his brothers and cousins, dancing with his wife, and raising Yorkies. He was a devoted member of the First Church of God in Jefferson City. Most of all, Doug loved his family who will miss him dearly. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Kay; his children, Brian Leroy Whetstone (Wendy) and Jolie Osbjornsen (Rick); grandchildren, Dalton, Kelton, Daynaira, Joshua, Ryland, Layne, and Deborah; great-grandchildren, Ana, Elise, Ashlynn, and Lukas; siblings, Dan Whetstone (Stacia) and Katee Vee Kolm (Rick); daughter-in-law, Heather; and numerous close friends. He was preceded in death by one son, Mason Douglas Whetstone. Friends will be received from 9:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 9, 2022 at the First Church of God. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Joe Gregory officiating. A private military inurnment will be held at Fort Logan National Cemetery at a later date.
