Penny Gwynne Crane

Mrs. Penny Gwynne Crane, age 78 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away Thursday, June 17, 2021, at SSM Health St. Mary's Hospital. Penny was born on August 18, 1943, in Denver, Colo., the daughter of Roland and Effie (LeValley) Hallberg. She was married on December 22, 1962, in Englewood, Colo., to James Thomas "Tom" Crane, who survives. One of Penny's favorite memories was celebrating their 50th anniversary at Eureka Springs with their family. She was a 1960 graduate of Englewood High School and attended the University of Colorado. Penny was employed as an administrative assistant for over 25 years in the healthcare industry. She worked at the St. Thomas More Hospital in Canon City, Colo., St. Luke's Hospital in Denver and the Bethesda Hospital in Denver. She retired as the administrative assistant in the Brain Injury Department from Craig Rehabilitation Hospital in Denver, Colo. in 1995. After retirement, she and Tom moved to Jefferson City, Mo. where she was a member of the Unitarian-Universalist Church of Jeff City. Penny took advantage of living in Colorado the majority of her life and cherished time outdoors with family and friends. Some of her favorite times were hiking the mountains and fly fishing at their family cabin at Peaceful Valley with her parents. She always had a caring heart for animals so animals were always part of their family. She loved craft fairs and antique shops and would always talk family into visiting them with her. Recently, Penny enjoyed reading and being on Facebook to keep up with her family and friends from all over the world. Survivors include: her loving husband of 58 years, Tom Crane; two children, Randall Jeffrey "Randy" Crane and Tracey Alicia Crane, both of Pueblo West, Colo.; two grandchildren, Emma and Noah Crane of Pueblo West, Colo.; sister-in-law, Cheryl McAuliffe of San Jose, Calif.; and brother-in-law, Bruce Berger of Jefferson City, Mo. She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister-in-law, Kathleen "Kathie" Berger; her beloved Dobermans, Sadie, Megan, Mame; cats, Emma and Smokey Joe; and dogs, Jake and Trinket. A visitation will be held at Freeman Mortuary from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 30, 2021. Memorial services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 30, 2021, in the Freeman Chapel with the Reverend Nancy TannerThies officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge in Eureka Springs, Ark.
