Joseph A. Blunt Jr., 89, of Jefferson City, Missouri, passed through Heaven's gates on Wednesday, September 23, 2020, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on June 8, 1931 in New Orleans, Louisiana, a son of the late Joseph A. and Rebecca (Files) Blunt Sr. Joe was united in marriage on September 29, 1956 in Jefferson City to the lovely Bertha Turner. Joe graduated from high school in New Orleans, Louisiana and attended college in Chicago, Illinois. He enlisted with the United States Army on January 17, 1957 and proudly served his country for over 26 years. Joe worked for the Missouri Highway Patrol and later for the Missouri Department of Corrections where he retired after more than 20 years of service. Joe was a member of Oak Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, The American Legion Post 5 and the Capitol City Masonic Lodge AF & AM #9 and was a 33rd degree Mason. He enjoyed watching westerns and was a prankster. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Bertha; daughters: Marilyn Venson of Spanish Lake, Renee Blunt of Jefferson City and Linda Moore of New Orleans, Louisiana; grandchildren: Leon Blunt, Angela Aleem, Quantanya Kelley-Marsaw, Mitisha Blunt; great-grandchildren: Keyan Kelley, Aliyah Aleem, Jasmine Mason, Breanna Mason, Amir Crump and Collin Marsaw; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. Joe was preceded in death by his daughters: Marie Kelley and Barbara Jackson; grandson: LaVanté Kelley; and five sisters. Friends will be received from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 3, 2020 at Houser-Millard Funeral Directors with funeral services following at 3:00 p.m. with Rev. Marion Mitchell officiating. Interment with full military honors will be held at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Missouri Hospice and Palliative Care Association.
