Donnie Joe McClanahan, 82, of Jefferson City, went home to be with his son on Friday, September 25, 2020. He was born on June 10, 1938 in Prairie Home, Missouri, a son of the late Gordon and Josephine (Langkop) McClanahan. He was united in marriage to Linda Roedel on May 24, 1959 in a little country church near their home. He'd been walking this young lady to and from school since she was 10 years old. He was a 1956 graduate of Prairie Home R-V School District. When he was 21, he began working for the Missouri Highway Department in the Purchasing and Procurement Division and retired as the supervisor after 37 years. Sitting idle wasn't his style and he began his own lawn mowing business and mowed each yard with a push mower up until early 2020. He enjoyed sports of all kinds but found ladies college softball and basketball the most entertaining. He coached many area youth teams. His greatest joy in life was being a dad, grandpa and great-grandpa. The impact his life made on his family is something they will carry with them until they are reunited in Heaven. Be at peace beloved husband and grandpa. Donnie is survived by his wife of 61 years: Linda McClanahan; daughter-in-law: Paula McClanahan; sister: Donna Morris: grandsons: Josh and Amanda Batye and Chad and Terra McClanahan; great-grandchildren: Emma Jane, Chloe Lin and Grayson Duke Batye. He was preceded in death by his son: Donnie Lamont "Mont" McClanahan. Friends will be received from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., Thursday, October 1, 2020 at the Diane Peck Memorial Sanctuary at Riverview Cemetery. Celebration of Life will be held at 3:00 p.m. with the Rev. Dr. Monte Shinkle officiating. Private family entombment to follow. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that expressions of sympathy be made to Central Missouri Honor Flight or Concord Baptist Church. Arrangements are under the direction of HOUSER-MILLARD Funeral Directors, 2613 West Main Street, Jefferson City, MO 65109, (573) 636-3838.
