Mattie Louise Murray

Mattie Louise Murray, 89, of Jefferson City, Missouri, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 14, 2020, at Capital Region Medical Center due to COVID 19 complications. She was born on April 13, 1931 in New Bloomfield, Missouri, a daughter of the late Timothy and Goldie (Burgett) Murray. Mattie attended New Bloomfield Schools. She was employed as a custodian for the State of Missouri in the Jefferson Building, the Truman Building, and at the Missouri State Capitol from which she retired after more than 25 years. Mattie was an active member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in New Bloomfield where she enjoyed singing in the choir. She liked eating at different restaurants and visiting different churches around the area. What she enjoyed most was helping others any chance she could get. She is survived by her two daughters: Rev. Geneva Whittler (James) of Jefferson City and Sharon Bishop (Maurice) of Columbia; six grandchildren: Berkley, Don, Amber, Brandon, Bethany, and Bryan; eight great-grandchildren; brother-in-law: Fay Holt; special friends: Helen Ferguson and Nadine Washington; her nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. Mattie was preceded in death by her brother: John Murray; her sisters: Hazel Murray, Cordia Holt, Sarah Smith, and Amelia Murray; brother-in-law: Homer Smith; and special friend and cousin: Lois Whittler. Friends will be received from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 21, 2020 at Houser-Millard Funeral Directors. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 21, 2020 at Houser-Millard Funeral Directors. Private family interment will follow in St. Paul United Methodist Church Cemetery in New Bloomfield, Missouri. Expressions of sympathy may be made to St. Paul United Methodist Church.
