Alvin Schmidt, 85, of Osage Bend, Missouri, passed away on Wednesday, November 11, 2020, at St. Mary's Hospital. He was born on March 1, 1935 in Osage Bend, a son of the late John and Clara (Grafe) Schmidt. Alvin was united in marriage to Odelia Groner in 1958 in St. Thomas with his uncle, Fr. Schmidt, officiating. Alvin was a 1953 graduate of St. Peter's High School. He proudly served his country in the United States Army with the "A" Battery 816th Field Artillery Battalion from 1957 to 1963. Alvin was employed with the State of Missouri, Department of Labor and Industrial Relations, Division of Employment Security for over 50 years from June 1953 until his retirement in August 2005. Alvin served on the City of Wardsville Town Board and the Blair Oaks School Board. He was a member of St. Margaret of Antioch Catholic Church and a 3rd Degree Member of the Wardsville-Osage Bend Knights of Columbus. Alvin was instrumental in establishing the Osage Senior Center in Wardsville and served on the board for the first six years. He played country music most of his life, mostly with the "C and O Boys" band. Alvin enjoyed spending time on the farm driving his tractors, bobcat and four wheelers. He even liked to spend time in the garden and doing lawn work. He was a sports fan, especially for the St. Louis Cardinals and University of Missouri. Alvin loved to travel and vacation with Odelia and cherished the times spent with family. He loved all of them very much. Alvin is survived by his wife of 62 years, Odelia; children: Gail Lynn Schmidt Foerster (Jeff) and Alan Gerard Schmidt (Michelle); grandchildren: Cory Schmidt, Claire Foerster, Madeline Foerster, Makayla Jamerson (Spencer) and Dustin Schmidt; brothers-in-law: Clem Groner and Art Groner; and many other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; son: Rick Schmidt; brothers: Jerome "Doc" Schmidt and Norbert Schmidt; two infant sisters; sister-in-law: Rita Otto; and brother-in-law: Raymond Groner. A private family Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 18 at St. Margaret of Antioch Catholic Church in Osage Bend. Interment will follow at St. Margaret Catholic Cemetery where friends are invited to attend from a distance. Expressions of sympathy may be made to St. Margaret of Antioch Catholic Church.
