Margaret Bernice "Bea" Groves, age 92, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away on Wednesday, November 4, 2020, at home with family by her side. She was born on June 3, 1928 in Porter, Okla., the daughter of Bertram and Elizabeth (Bristol) Bowd. She was married on October 1, 1949 in Corning, Ark. to William Thomas Groves, who preceded her in death on October 17, 2007. Bea graduated from Muskogee High School in Muskogee, Okla. Bea was a member of the Fairgrounds Road Church of Christ. She was a member of the Cuba Church of Christ before moving to Jefferson City in 2005. She was active in the ladies class and Blue Sky Day School. She loved to quilt and was always helping to quilt at church for charities or wherever there was a need, and she made many treasured quilts for her family. She had lots of hobbies, some of which included quilting, sewing, crocheting, cross stitch, and plastic canvas. She loved to sing, especially the hymns from church. She had such a good memory, she could sing songs she had learned when she was a school girl. She was good at making up limericks and poems about family members and people she knew. She had a way with words and could tell you about them in the limericks. Survivors include her children: Carolyn Sebold (Charlie) of Cadet, Mo., Brenda Northway (Larry) of Jefferson City, Mo., and Timothy Groves (Joann) of Bonn Terre, Mo.; eight grandchildren: Charles Sebold (Tracy), Aaron Sebold (Amber), Rachel Sebold, Jeremy Schneider (Jamie), Kate Callahan (Brad), Jacob Schneider (Sheryl Perkins), Dustin Groves (Tasha), and Bryan Groves (Ashley); 18 great-grandchildren; three half-sisters: Billie JoAnn (Bowd) Griffin, Lois Marie (Bowd) Burns, and Karen Kay Bowd; and a half brother, David Wayne Bowd. Bea was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 58 years, Tom Groves; her step-mother, Thelma Mae Groves Bowd, three sisters, Mildred Ethel Bowd Stapp, Betty June Bowd Brewer, Mary Lou Bowd Ostendorf; a brother, Charles Eugene Layton; and a half sister, Maxine Clara Bowd Lampley. Visitation will be held in Corning, Ark. at Ermert Funeral Home from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m., Saturday, November 14, 2020. Graveside services will follow at Richwoods Cemetery with Brent Newton officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Fair Havens Children's Home, 3132 N Fairhaven Loop, Strafford, MO 65757.
