Robert James "Bob" McMillin

Robert James "Bob" McMillin, age 68, of Jamestown, Mo., passed away on Wednesday, October 28, 2020, at his home after a long struggle with cancer and under the loving care of his son, Aaron. Bob was born on June 27, 1952 in Jefferson City, Mo. He was the son of Geraldean "Gerry" McMillin and Bobby Lee McMillin, who he lost when he was only four years old. Bob lived all of his life in Jefferson City until he moved to Jamestown in 2013. He loved living in the country and took great pleasure in the wildlife that abounded on his land-including the deer, bobcats, and once, a bear. Bob served in the Army from 12/1971 to 12/1973 and was deployed as a radio operator in Germany. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and enjoyed social time at the Knights of Columbus hall. He worked for many years at United Parcel Service, first in delivery and later as a manager and troubleshooter at various locations. After leaving UPS he started his own business, Bob's Pest Control, and worked in Jefferson City, Fulton, and surrounding towns and counties. Weight gain in those years might be attributed to the many pies and cakes that his customers made especially for him on the days he was scheduled to work at their location. Bob was a plain-spoken, straightforward person. Patience may not have been his strength, but he had a wicked sense of humor - often sharp, but always funny. His children and nephews will always remember his teasing and questionable support for their childhood and teen antics. He had a soft spot for elderly people and was gentle, kind, and funny with them. He loved the St. Louis Cardinals and he never stopped watching and laughing at The Andy Griffith Show. Bob was close to his mother and was very attentive to her in her later years. They disagreed about all things political and cultural but loved each other right through it. His grandfather, James "Jim" Vaughn, was a beloved influence on his life. He spent many days, weeks, and months in his company. Together they hunted, fished, and "worked the dogs." His most prized possessions were guns, photos, and memorabilia that belonged to his grandfather. Survivors include: one daughter, Shelley Oswalt and her husband Chris of Platte City, Mo.; one son, Robert Aaron McMillin of Jamestown; one granddaughter, Emily Foley of Platte City; one brother, Grant McMillin and his wife Gina of Kathleen, Ga.; one sister, Sharon Huntze and her husband Joseph Camille of Columbia, Mo.; four nephews, a great-niece and a great-nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents. No formal celebration of life is planned. Family and friends are encouraged to gather as they wish and share "Bob stories."
