Charles Valentine Matheis, 90, of Russellville, passed away Thursday, June 25, 2020, at Adams Street Place. He was born May 7, 1930, in Russellville, Missouri, the son of the late Webster and Florence (Lehr) Matheis. He was a 1947 graduate of Russellville High School and attended Lincoln University where he received his teaching certificate. Charles joined the United States Army and served during the Korean Conflict. He was united in marriage on July 27, 1957, in Aurora Springs, Missouri to Loretta Jean Cantwell, who survives at the home. Charles worked for the Russellville High School as a custodian for eight years and later as the Building Trades instructor for 22 years. After retiring from the high school, he owned and operated Charles Matheis Construction for several years. He was a member of Russellville Baptist Church. He enjoyed woodworking, farming, participating in 4-H, and spending time with his family especially his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Loretta Matheis, Russellville; two sons, Stephen (Cindy) Matheis, Russellville and Neal (Karen) Matheis, Russellville; five grandchildren, Darah (Andy) Scott, Quintin Matheis, Macy (Steven) Whittenberg, Mackenzie (Ryan) Maggard, Sam Matheis; four great-grandchildren, Addison Porter, Zoey Whittenberg, Luke Maggard, Addilynn Scott, and one on the way; one sister-in-law, Carolyn Green; and two brothers-in-law, Bob (Jackie) Cantwell and Tom (Laura) Cantwell. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Larry and Wayne Matheis. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m., Monday, June 29, 2020, at Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Russellville. Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Russellville Baptist Church with Rev. Dinzel Webb officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Enloe Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Russellville Baptist Church. Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Russellville is in charge of the arrangements.
