Gary Robert Powell, age 66, of Columbia, Mo., passed from this life into the eternal arms of the Father on Tuesday, June 16, 2020, at Boone Hospital Center from complications of lung disease. He was born in 1953, to Robert (Betty) Combs, Akron, Ohio and Donna Rae (Thomas) Powell, of Fulton, Mo. His parents and step-father proceeded him in death. Betty survives in Akron, Ohio. He is survived by the love of his life Molly (Suttenfield) Powell, they were married in her father's home in New Bloomfield in 1979, and were married for 41 years. Gary raised a fine son, Joshua (Katie) Powell of Mesa, Ariz. He was a grandpa to Josh and Katie's children, Addison and Wesley Powell. He loved the times he got to spend with them. He attended Jefferson City High School. Gary was an avid reader of Louis L'Amour books, loved Frank Zappa music, and his favorite show was The Walking Dead. A laconic and often even a gruff man, the two things Gary never lacked were affection and a good punch line. Gary loved a good joke and some bad ones. He had an infectious smile. He loved Harley Davidson, collected Harley Davidson memorabilia, and rode his Harley as often as possible with his friends. His hard work and entrepreneurial spirit helped him open "Ridin' In the Wind" leather shop for many years in Fulton; until he got a job working once again as a truck driver and he moved to Columbia. He drove truck for over 30 years. Gary was an incomparable brother to Karen (Danny) Hartman of Jefferson City and Shelley (Scott) Armistead of Barry, Ill. He was an uncle to Eric (Rachel) Hartman, Jefferson City; Wendi (David) Pezold, Columbia; Colton (Alicia) Jones, Holts Summit; Hayden Jones, Seattle, Wash.; Baleigh Jones, Columbia; and a great-uncle to Jared Hartman, Columbia; and Kaden Hartman, Columbia. A "Remembrance" service will be held at 6:00 p.m., Monday June 22, 2020, NOMO District AG, 2600 I-70 Drive NW, Columbia, MO 65202
