Carol Lynn Meisel, age 70, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away peacefully Friday, June 19, 2020, at home surrounded by her loving family after a long and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Carol was born July 7, 1949, in Eldon, Mo., the daughter of Noah Kratzer and Margaret (Thompson) Humphrey. She was married on January 12, 1980, in Jefferson City, Mo. to Leroy A. Meisel. A lifelong resident of the central Missouri area, Carol was a 1967 graduate of Eldon High School and later received her certificate of cosmetology from Callahan's Cosmetology School in Kansas. She worked part time as a hairdresser for several years. Carol started her State of Missouri career with the Highway Department and then continued her employment with the Department of Conservation in the Fisheries Division. After 28 years of service, she retired in 2001. She possessed a strong faith and was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church. Carol, known as "Memaw," cherished time with family, especially her granddaughters, who were her pride and joy. She was the family's number one fan and enjoyed attending every sporting event. Carol enjoyed dancing, reading, playing cards and board games, traveling with friends, and many family vacations to the Florida Panhandle beaches. Holidays were her favorite times, especially Thanksgiving and Christmas, where she could be found cooking and decorating with family. Carol will be remembered for her smile and giving heart. She was dedicated to helping others by lending her time, having a friendly conversation, or just making family and friends feel special. To Carol, there was no greater gift than the love of family and she will truly be missed. Survivors include: her loving husband of 40 years, Leroy Meisel; one son, Brad Zimmerman (wife Jennifer) of New Bloomfield, Mo.; five siblings, Sue Wyrick of Tuscumbia, Mo., Ruth Workman (husband Gail) of Eldon, Mo., Rose Flora (husband Robert) of Tonganoxie, Kan., Charles "Bud" Kratzer (wife Linda) of Sedalia, Mo. and Linda Haggerman of Eldon, Mo.; two granddaughters, Laney and Anna Zimmerman; one sister-in-law, Barb Apperson of Kansas City, Kan.; two brothers-in-law, Larry Meisel (wife Margaret) and James Meisel (wife Mary), both of Jefferson City, Mo.; and numerous nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents; her in-laws, Henry and Mildred Meisel; two sisters, Louise Myers (husband Jim) and Patsy Ross (husband Billy); two brothers, Dave Apperson and Jerry Apperson; and a brother-in-law, Kenneth Wyrick. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 24, 2020, at Trinity Lutheran Church with Reverend Sam Powell and the Reverend Jesse Schlie officiating. A reception will follow her service at the church. Private graveside service and interment will be held at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church, 803 Swifts Highway, Jefferson City, MO 65109.
