Katie Sue McElvain

Katie Sue McElvain, 45, of Columbia, Mo., passed away Monday, June 8, 2020 at Boone Hospital surrounded by her loving family. Katie was born on December 4, 1974, the oldest child of Douglas and Susan (Brightwell) Kelly. She grew up in Jefferson City and graduated from Jefferson City High School in 1993. Katie enjoyed gardening and watching cooking shows. She was an avid Mizzou sports fan and spent much of her time watching her kids play sports. Katie's fondest memories were with her core crew - spending time with her grandbabies was by far her greatest joy. They spent many nights going to dinner together; laughing and sharing stories. While Katie was taken too soon, she instilled a strong family value in her children. Survivors include: her significant other of 23 years, Kendell Smith of Columbia; children, Alandra Clark and Alex Smith of Columbia; mother, Susan Kelly of Holts Summit; siblings, Seth Kelly (Michelle) of Wardsville, Kristine Wegener (Scott) of Holts Summit, Sarah Streeter (Derek) of Jefferson City, Joshua Kelly (Brenda) of Great Falls, Mont., Jacob Kelly (Kendra) of Tipton, and Samuel Kelly of Holts Summit; grandchildren, Elijah Rolley, Zion Johnson and Kamdyn McGee; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Douglas Kelly in 1997. A private celebration of Katie's life will be held on Saturday, June 20, 2020.
