Lena Branson

Lena Branson, 102, of Jefferson City, passed away on Thursday, June 4, 2020. She was born February 14, 1918, in Reynolds County, Missouri, to George W. and Bessie Francis Moses. She attended school in Custer and Henderson, Arkansas, and Plato, Missouri. She attended three years of high school in Bloodland, Missouri, and graduated from Owensville, Missouri, high school in 1936. Lena was baptized on Easter Sunday in 1935, in the Methodist Church in Bloodland, Missouri. She moved to Jefferson City in 1939, and worked at the International Shoe Company for two years. On July 20, 1940, she married Melvin S. Branson. From 1940 to 1948, she assisted her father-in-law, Barney Branson, who was the business agent for Laborer's Local #662. After her father-in-law passed away, she then assisted her husband in running the local until 1969. She then returned to work at the local to assist Kenney Moreau from 1974 to 1983, when she retired. Three children were born to Melvin and Lena: Robert (Bob) Branson, Glenda Joy Wymer, and Sammy Eugene Branson. Lena had 11 brothers and sisters: Vernon, Noel, Lorene, Ruby, Glen, Bob. Jacque, Donna, Charles, Sue and Sallie. Lena is survived by her son Robert Branson (Sandra), and daughter, Glenda Wymer (Larry), of Jefferson City, Missouri; two grandsons: Jim Branson (Stacy), Ashland, Missouri; and Doug Branson, Hatton, Missouri; one great-grandson: Cody Branson; and one great-granddaughter: Alexis Branson. She is also survived by three sisters: Donna Montgomery (Bill), Sue Kliethermes and Sallie Jacobs; one brother: Charles Moses, all of Jefferson City; and many nieces and nephews.
