Robert "Rocky" William Eames Sr., age 93, of Iberia, passed away surrounded by his family on Sunday, April 26, 2020, at Miller County Care and Rehabilitation Center in Tuscumbia. He was born in Blakely, Pennsylvania, on March 17, 1927, son of the late John William and Mary Eleanor (Horton) Eames. On August 3, 1948, in New York City at the Little Church Around the Corner, Robert married Faith Alice Linderman, who preceded him in death on December 29, 2001. Sgt. Major Robert William Eames Sr. had an honorable military career in the United States Marine Corps and received 8 Battle Stars for combat during his 30 years of service as a Marine, spanning from 1944 to 1973. His military tours of service included WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. He was a life member of the 40 and 8 of Waynesville and a lifetime member of the VFW in Crocker. Rocky retired to the town of Iberia in 1971, to his dream farm. He completed a degree in Agriculture and raised cattle and hogs. He was the Chief of Police in Iberia for many years until his retirement, which included service as a Miller County Deputy. Rocky contributed to his Missouri home, raising a family that have worked and further cultivated their own community successes as teachers, scholars, and community leaders. Rocky had a wonderful singing voice, loved his wife, Faith, his children, old westerns, baking bread, and family visits. He committed himself to his personal causes, supporting veterans and community campaigns. Rocky maintained a charismatic presence, was of great honesty and of quick wit. Semper Fidelis, shortened to Semper Fi, is a Latin phrase meaning "Always Faithful" or "Always Loyal". It is the motto of the United States Marine Corps. Rocky's wishes included a moment of silence for his past Comrades in Arms, many lost to the ravages of war. Few TRUE HEROES pass as quietly, being missed by so many and having contributed so much. Semper Fi Rocky and thank you for your service. He is survived by two sons, Robert William Eames Jr. (Lola) of Hartsburg and Jerry Eames (Donna) of Moberly; one daughter, Annette Trusty (Ralf) of Iberia; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; one brother, Rolland Eames (Kathy); three sisters, Lois Sala, Eleanor Babola, and Christine Konecny; and numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends. He was preceded in death by nine brothers, Gary, Kenneth, Howard, Daniel, James, Charles, Richard, John and Donald; and one great-grandchild, Luke Michael Trusty. A private family graveside service will be held at Livingston Cemetery in Iberia with his son-in-law, Ralf Trusty, officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Iberia Toy Drive. Arrangements are under the direction of Fancher-Rekus Funeral Home in Iberia. Condolences may be shared with the family at www.fancher-rekusfuneralhomes.com.
