William Carl McDonald

William Carl McDonald, 89, passed away on Thursday, April 2, 2020, at Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City. He was born November 15, 1930 near Ulman, Missouri, to William Dwight and Ruby Fay (Helton) McDonald. Following graduation from Tuscumbia High School, he served in the U.S. Air Force for four years. In 1950 he married his high school sweetheart, Ada Maxine Shackleford, who preceded him in death in 2004. After retiring from the FBI in 1987, Carl and Maxine enjoyed traveling around the country. On January 25, 2009, Carl married his beloved wife, Sue Dillon, who survives at their home in Jefferson City. Together they enjoyed supporting the Tuscumbia Lions basketball teams, serving at the Miller County Historical Society where he was a board member, and as a long-time elder at Tuscumbia Christian Church and Capital City Christian Church. Carl is survived by his son, Pat (Angie) McDonald, and daughter-in-law, Terry McDonald, as well as his step-daughters, Robyn (Pat) Behen and Jackie (Tim) White; his grandchildren: Jessie McDonald, Beth (Mark) Cieslak, Jared (Karen) McDonald, Vera (Trey) Staley, Michael McDonald, Kristina McDonald, Marina McDonald, Aly (Jake) Trexler, and Joshua McDonald; step-grandchildren: Jeremy Behen, Zach White, and Nick (Elizabeth) White; and great-grandchildren: Logan and Ethan Cieslak, Ansley McDonald, Reign and Riley Staley, Katherine McDonald; and step-great-granddaughter, Ainsley White. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Thelma; his brother, Loren; and his oldest son, Dr. Mike McDonald in 2013. Graveside Services will be held on Sunday, April 5, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Tuscumbia Cemetery in Tuscumbia, Mo. with Pastor Stephen McFadden officiating. A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Tuscumbia Community Betterment Association or the THS Athletic Department, Tuscumbia, Mo. Arrangements are under the direction and care of Phillips Funeral Home of Eldon, Mo.
