Donald J. "Pete" Horstdaniel, 83, of Jefferson City, passed away Monday, July 24, 2017, at Valley Park Residential Care in Holts Summit. He was born March 27, 1934, in Westphalia, Missouri, son of the late Clemens and Irene (Otto) Horstdaniel. He attended St. Joseph's Catholic School in Westphalia. On February 26, 1955, Pete was united in marriage on the Albrook Air Force Base in the Panama Canal Zone, to Patricia L. Leiben, who preceded him in death on December 19, 2014. Pete was a veteran of the United States Air Force, and served for 20 years until his retirement from the military. He proudly served his country in the Korean War and also the Vietnam War. After his retirement from the United States Air Force, Pete worked in Office Maintenance for 13 years for the Missouri Osteopathic Association; for 10 years for the State of Missouri - Design and Construction Maintenance until his retirement in 1996. Following his retirement, Pete worked for Enterprise Rent-A-Car driving and delivering vehicles. He was of the Catholic faith, and was also a member of the American Legion and the VFW. Pete enjoyed St. Louis Cardinal baseball games, fishing and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Pete is survived by two sons: Donald J. Horstdaniel Jr. of Holts Summit, Mo.; David M. Horstdaniel (wife Marie "Laine") of Jacksonville, Fla.; two daughters: Donna J. Bryant (husband Bradley) of Effingham, Ill.; Dianne M. Smart (husband Mark) of Tebbetts, Mo.; two sisters: Mary Lou Brandt of Jefferson City, Mo.; Patricia Ann Muenks of St. Louis, Mo.; nine grandchildren: Brendon Bryant of Carlisle, Iowa; Adam Bryant (Lauran) of Carlisle, Iowa; Kevin Bryant (Katie) of Washington, D.C.; Jennifer Redcay (Nathan) of Jefferson City, Mo.; Shawn Smart (Jennifer) of Tebbetts, Mo.; Traci Smart-Redcay (Brandon) of Holts Summit, Mo.; Andrew Horstdaniel of Jacksonville, Fla.; Eli Horstdaniel of Jacksonville, Fla.; Heather Horstdaniel of Holts Summit, Mo.; and eight great-grandchildren: Kaylee Redcay and Nick Redcay of Jefferson City, Mo.; Annabelle Smart and Marabel Smart of Tebbetts, Mo.; Emery Redcay of Holts Summit, Mo.; Stele Bryant of Carlisle, Iowa; Will Bryant and Sam Bryant of Washington, D.C. Friends will be received from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Sunday, July 30, 2017, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, July 30, 2017, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home with Kevin Bryant officiating. Entombment with Full Military Honors will follow in the Hawthorn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Sheltered Workshop.
