Walter Carl Groose, 89, of Eugene, Missouri, passed away Thursday, June 2, 2016, surrounded by his family. He was born March 20, 1927, in Henley, Missouri (Teal Bottom), the son of the late Henry and Anna (Evers) Groose. On June 26, 1954, he was united in marriage to Betty Jo (Kempker) Groose, who survives at home. He graduated from Teal School. Walter was a veteran of the United States Army serving in the Korean Conflict. He was a farmer in the Spring Garden area. Other survivors include: his children: Jeanne Hammond (Charles), Curtis Groose (Susan), Christopher Groose (Debbie) of Eugene, and Calvin Groose (Rhonda) of Olean; grandchildren, Ryan Groose of Walnut Grove, Sam Hammond, Loren Groose, Tevin Groose and Tyler Groose of Olean, Christina Groose, Andrew Groose, Sarah Strobel and Eric Groose of Eugene; Erica Whorton of Belton; great- grandchildren, Khale Hammond, Peyton, Pearson, Noah, Ben and Henry Groose, Lane and Landree Strobel. A stillborn grandson, Baby Hammond, and great-grandson, Connor Loren Groose; two sisters, Flora Bruning and Alberta Schmidt, and three brothers, Arthur, Leonard and Willard Groose preceded him in death. Visitation will be Sunday, June 5, 2016 from 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church in Mary's Home, with a Rosary prayed at 3:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will be Monday, June 6, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church with Rev. Patrick J. Shortt officiating. Interment will follow at Spring Garden Cemetery near Eugene, with full military honors provided by the Eldon VFW Post #2442. Memorials in his name are suggested to the Spring Garden Cemetery Fund or Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Phillips Funeral Home of Eldon.
