Henry Woods

Henry F. Woods, age 88, of Jefferson City, passed away on Monday, January 18, 2016, at Adams Street Care Center in Jefferson City. He was born in Callaway County on November 14, 1927, son of the late Fred and Iness (South) Woods. On February 21, 1948, in Ashland, Henry married Lorene D. McCubbin, who survives and they would have celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary next month. Henry served from November 6, 1951, until his honorable discharge on August 10, 1953, in the United States Army as a sniper during the Korean War. He was awarded the Bronze Star for his service. After his time in the service he began working at Riley Chevrolet, where he worked the next 37 years. He retired as a highly respected body shop foreman at Riley Chevrolet. Henry was a member of the Church of Christ. In addition to his loving wife, Lorene, he is also survived by two brothers, William "Perry" Woods and Paul Lester Woods both of Jefferson City; and many nieces, nephews, family members, and friends. He was preceded in death by one sister, Gladys Martin; one brother, Wilbur Woods; half-brother, Roy Birdsong; brother-in-law, Thurman Martin; sister-in-law, Dorothy Woods; and his beloved dog, GiGi. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m., with services immediately following at 11 a.m., on Friday, January 22, 2016, at Fancher-Rekus Funeral Home in Iberia. Bro. Brian Duncan will officiate. Interment will be in Hickory Point Cemetery near Iberia. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Hickory Point Cemetery.
