Donald Karr

Donald "Doc" Lee Karr, 91, of Columbia, passed away Friday, January 15, 2016, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Mexico. Donald was born February 2, 1924, in Henley, Mo., the son of L.C. and Esta Bond Karr. He married Dorothy Adrian, who preceded him in death. He served in the U.S. Army as a Half Track Driver and Anti-Tank Gun Crewman during WWII and was awarded three Bronze Stars for his time in the service. He later married Louise Medley (Karr) in Columbia and she survives. "Doc" retired after many years from Bill Barnhart Construction as a heavy equipment operator. Then, he continued working for years on his own for family, friends and sometimes just for FUN! Survivors include: his wife, Louise; one son, Donald Lee Karr Jr. of Bay City, Mich.; one daughter, Sharon Gilpin (Michael Moser) of Jefferson City; one sister, Lorene Roush of Elston; three grandsons; one granddaughter; and multiple great and great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by: his extended family, Deborah (Rich) Daly of Columbia, Teresa (Darrell) McSwain of Fayette, Machelle (Stephen) Dick of Columbia; six grandsons; and multiple great and great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by: five brothers; two sisters; and one granddaughter. Funeral Services will be held at Robinson Funeral Home in Ashland, Saturday, January 23, 2016, at 11:00 a.m., with visitation from 10:00-11:00 a.m., with Rev. Drew Snyder officiating. Burial will follow in Liberty Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests Memorial Contributions be made to Liberty Cemetery in care of the family.
