Martha Ann Wasson

Mrs. Martha Ann Wasson, age 86 years, a lifelong resident of Victoria, Texas, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, December 26, 2015, at the Arbors at Westbrook Terrace in Jefferson City, Missouri. Martha Ann was born February 22, 1929, in Victoria, Texas, the daughter of Roman Emil and Margaret (Diebel) Angerstein. She was married on December 13, 1952, in Victoria, Texas to Robert J. "Bob" Wasson, who preceded her in death in February 2005. She was Valedictorian of the 1946 class of the Patti Welder High School in Victoria, Texas and a 1950 graduate of the University of Texas. She was a member and President of Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority, and had the privilege of attending their National Convention her senior year. Her friends from high school and college remained very important to her throughout her life. Martha Ann taught Texas History at Howell Middle School in Victoria for a few years until her retirement. She volunteered in many organizations throughout her life including Decora Study Club, Victoria Symphony, and the Victoria Fine Arts Club. When serving in Decora she helped with tours of Victoria which in turn raised monies used to build the Women's Clubhouse. In later years, she enjoyed playing bridge, knitting sweaters for children in third world countries, and just being with friends. She also volunteered with DeTar Pastoral Care ministering to mothers with new babies. Martha Ann's greatest joys in life were her family. She loved her family and being a devoted wife and mother was most important to her. Her most precious memories were the years when all her children's friends would come over to play pool and other games at the house. She also found much joy in serving the Lord through different church ministries over the years. She was a gifted pianist and devoted many years to serving as accompanist on the piano for Sunday services, and also for the children's ministry including Christmas pageants. She loved teaching the children to sing praise songs and one of her favorites was "V is for Victory." She is survived by her daughters, Ann Littlefield and her husband Kenneth of Jefferson City, Mo. and Susan Rybak and her husband Gary of Victoria, Texas; one son, Michael Wasson and his wife Emily of Katy, Texas; nine grandchildren, Claire Wasson, Sarah Wasson, EmmaKate Wasson, Jack Wasson, Amanda (Jonathon) Prouty, Lindsay (Kenny) Kim, Brett Littlefield, Casey Cattan, Kirby Cattan, and Conly (Megan) Cattan; and two great-grandchildren, Ty and Matthew Cattan. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a son in law, Billy Ty Cattan. Visitation will be held at Fellowship Bible Church, 3401 N. Navarro, Victoria, Texas 77901, from 9:00 until 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 16, 2016, with a celebration of her life following at 11:00 a.m. Private graveside services and interment will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Victoria, Texas.
