Leona Esther Hoelscher

Leona Esther Hoelscher, 95, of Wardsville, passed away on Thursday, December 31, 2015, at Capital Region Medical Center. She was born on June 6, 1920, in Jefferson City, the daughter of August and Dora (Propst) Engelbrecht, both of whom preceded her in death. She was married on February 19, 1946, at St. Peter Catholic Church to Joseph Frank Hoelscher, who preceded her in death in May 18, 1969. She worked for several factories around Jefferson City, including International Shoe Factory and Chesebrough Ponds. She was known far and wide for her seamstress skills, and was sought after for sewing and alterations. She enjoyed piecing together quilt tops and was quite good at it. She also spent many years (all her life) living and working on the family farm. Most of all she loved spending time with her family - children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and also her great-great- grandchild. She also loved her furry companion of five years, a little Yorkie named Tuffy. She is survived by three sons: Kenny Hoelscher and wife Janice of Wardsville, Donnie Hoelscher of Bonnots Mill, Paul Hoelscher of Wardsville; one daughter: Ann Moeckli and husband Daniel of Wardsville; grandchildren: Mike, Becky, Sarah, Jeff, Brian, Bruce, Tami, Mark, Gail, Joshua, Jennifer, Leah and Bo; great-grandchildren: Cameron, Mandy, Adia, Domenick, Jade, Dylan, Colton, Kayle, Kaden, Dallas, Dustin, Lexi, Lani, Brody, Brylee, Leon, Sadie, Taylor, Hunter, Royce, and Piper; great-great-grandchild: Aiden; three sisters: Marie Loesch, Dorothy Ehrhardt, and Ruby Kautsch; one daughter-in-law, Betty Siebeneck and husband Jerry; and numerous nieces and nephews. Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three children: Leon "Butch" Hoelscher, Doris Hoelscher, and infant child, Joseph Hoelscher; siblings: Freda Benne, Tony Engelbrecht, Susie Schnieders, and Adam Engelbrecht; and two grandchildren: Clinton Moeckli and Kelly Lynn Hoelscher. Family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 3, 2016 at Houser Millard Funeral Directors, with a Prayer Service at 12:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, January 4, 2016 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church with Fr. Ignazio Medina celebrating Mass. Interment will be in St. Stanislaus Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
