Robert Mayden Hileman

Robert Mayden Hileman, 90, of Jefferson City, Mo., died Friday, January 23, 2015, at North Care Hospice House in North Kansas City, Mo. Robert was born on October 25, 1924, in Ray County, Mo., a son of Harvey McKemy and Mary Elizabeth (Mayden) Hileman. He married Alice Frances Dooley of Ray County, Mo., on September 6, 1946. She preceded him in death on July 28, 2013. Robert graduated from Central C-2 High School in Hardin, Mo. He received his B.A. degree from William Jewell College in Liberty, Mo. and his M.A. degree from Vanderbilt University George Peabody College in Nashville, Tenn. Having received numerous fellowships, Robert also did graduate work at Case Institute of Technology in Cleveland, Ohio, William Jewell College in Liberty, Mo., University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kan., Stanford University in Palo Alto, Calif. and The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. Robert was also a member of Sigma Pi Sigma, National Physics Honor Society, while a student at William Jewell College. He served in the European Theatre during World War II. He was employed in education for 42 years - five years in West Plains, Mo., 13 years in Excelsior Springs, Mo., one and half years at the South West Education Improvement Center in Webb City, Mo., and 22 years in the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education in Jefferson City, Mo. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Jefferson City, Mo. Survivors include one son, Robert Mayden Hileman II of Kansas City, Mo.; and one sister, Catherine Davis of Harrisonville, Mo. In addition to his parents and wife, Robert was preceded in death by two brothers, John Hileman and William Hileman; and one sister, Elizabeth Early. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond, Mo. Visitation will be Wednesday, January 28, 2015 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Burial will be in the Wakenda Cemetery north of Hardin, Mo.
