Mrs. Betty L. Arnel, age 81 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away Sunday, January 25, 2015, surrounded by her loving family at the Jefferson City Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born on October 30, 1933, in Jefferson City, Mo., a daughter of the late Alfred and Delpha (Tynes) Tipton. She was married on June 6, 1952, in Jefferson City to Leonard "L.J." Arnel Jr., who preceded her in death in 1961. A lifelong resident of Jefferson City, Betty was a 1951 graduate of Jefferson City High School. She was employed as a cook with the Jefferson City Public Schools for several years and worked with the Missouri Department of Revenue for over 20 years until her retirement in 1996. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Betty enjoyed reading, shopping and the frequent trips to McDonalds with her children and grandchildren. She especially enjoyed visits with "her" dog, Butch, and his daily M&M treats. She cherished her family and supported them unconditionally. Survivors include: three sons, Gary Arnel and his wife Shirley of Jefferson City, Mo., Darrell Arnel and his wife Faith Ann of Hartsburg, Mo., and Mark Arnel and his wife Donna of Eugene, Mo.; three daughters, Diane Sheley and her husband Marvin of Centralia, Mo., Cynthia Hartle and her husband Tony of Selah, Wash., and Jackie (Ponder) Kian Mehr and her husband Mohsen of Columbia, Mo.; two sisters, Doris Dulin and her husband Bob of Lees Summit, Mo. and Gwen Tipton of Springfield, Mo.; 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held at Freeman Mortuary from 10:00 until 11:30 a.m., Thursday, January 29, 2015. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:30 a.m., Thursday, January 29, 2015 in the Freeman Chapel with the Reverend Troy Easley officiating. Graveside services and interment will be held at Riverview Cemetery. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to Hospice Compassus.
