Chenghui Liao

Chenghui Liao, MS, PhD, age 50 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away Monday, January 19, 2015, at the University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia, Mo. Chenghui was born November 27, 1964, in Longnan, Jiangxi Province, China, the oldest son of Weizong Liao and Quiying Liu. He was married on April 10, 1997, in Beijing, China to Shumei Yun. He was a 1982 graduate of Longnan High School, in Longnan, China and was a 1986 graduate of China University of Petroleum with a bachelor's degree in Petroleum Engineering. He obtained his masters and doctorate degrees in Petroleum Engineering from the Chinese Institute of Petroleum Exploration and Development. In 2007 he graduated from the University of Missouri at Columbia with a masters in Statistics. Chenghui had been a resident of the United States since 2000 and a resident of Jefferson City since 2003. In China, he was employed as a Senior Petroleum Engineer with the China National Petroleum Cooperation for over 10 years. After moving to the United States, he was employed as a research analyst with the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services until ill health forced his retirement a few months ago. He was a member of the University of Missouri Alumni Association. He enjoyed Chinese folk music, playing ping pong, traveling and watching martial arts movies. Chenghui will be known as a kind, intelligent, hardworking, and responsible man. His greatest joy was his family and he always cherished time spent with them. Through the years he passed up many job opportunities to stay closer to them. Survivors include: his wife of 17 years, Shumei Yun; one daughter, Yunxing Liao of Jefferson City, Mo.; his mother, Quiying Liu of Jiangxi, China; three brothers, Youmin Liao, Aimin Liao, and Zhiming Liao, all of Jiangxi, China; and one sister, Nuping Liao of Jiangxi, China. He was amazing to his family and will be greatly missed as a son, husband, father, and uncle. He was preceded in death by his father, Weizong Liao, in 2013. Visitation will be at the Freeman Mortuary from 11:00 until 1:30 p.m., Friday, January 23, 2015. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society.
