Roy W. Voiles

Roy W. Voiles, age 89, of Buffalo, Wyoming, passed away Tuesday January 13, 2015, at the Amie Holt Care Center in Buffalo, Wyoming. Roy Wesley Voiles was born on June 25, 1925, in Buffalo, Wyoming, to Carl and Mary Voiles. He grew up in Buffalo and graduated from Johnson County High School with the class of 1942. After high school he attended Oklahoma A & M University where he was in ROTC. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1943 and served as an officer during World War II in New Guinea, the Philippines with MacArthur and was in the Battle of Luzon. Following an honorable discharge from the military, he returned to Oklahoma A&M where he received a Law Degree. He owned a service station for a short time called Roy's Green Dragon in Kansas City, Missouri before going to work for IBM in the late 1950's. He was married on February 14, 1952 in Kansas City to Hildegard Krenner and they made their home in Kansas City, working for IBM in Indianapolis, Chicago and back to Jefferson City where he retired in the early 1990's. Mrs. Voiles passed away in 2007 and Roy returned to his childhood home of Buffalo where he lived until his death. He was a member of the Buffalo Wesleyan Church, and the VFW. Roy loved music and was an avid reader. He is survived by two sons, Mike Voiles and his wife Beckie of Jefferson City, Missouri and Chase Voiles and his wife Judy of Kansas City, Missouri; two daughters, Cathi Williams and her husband Pinky of Aquilla, Texas and Carrie Barclay of Granville, Ohio; one sister, Pearl Wells of Buffalo; six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by parents, his wife, three sisters Irene Smith, Edna Kennell and Edith Scollard, and one infant son shortly after birth. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 17, at 11:00 a.m. at the Buffalo Wesleyan Church with Pastor Steven Martin officiating. Interment will be in Willow Grove Cemetery with the American Legion and the VFW in charge of military graveside services. Visitation will be held at the Harness Funeral Home Chapel on Friday from 1:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Donations in Mr. Voiles memory may be made to the Buffalo Wesleyan Church Building Fund in care of the Harness Funeral Home at 351 N.
