Gene A. Landrum, 87, of Jefferson City, passed away Tuesday, January 13, 2015, at the University of Missouri Hospital & Clinics in Columbia. He was born July 7, 1927, in Big Spring, Mo., a son of the late Dillard and Maude (Hagedorn) Landrum. On December 29, 1950, Gene was united in marriage to Ruth Clevenger, who survives at their home. Gene had a distinguished 20 year career in the U.S. Air Force, retiring in 1967 as a Chief Master Sergeant. Gene then embarqued on a 2nd career at the Missouri Department of Labor - Division of Employment Security. After 15 years, he retired from the state in the position of Chief of Staff Training. He operated Gene's Home and Lawn Care for the remainder of his life. Gene was a member of the American Legion Post 5. His favorite thing in life was spending time with his family. Gene was a voracious reader, a tall-tale teller, and loved road trips. He was generous to both friends and strangers, always coming to the rescue, no matter what the need. Gene is survived by: four daughters, Deborah Landrum of Independence, Mo., Barbara Landrum (Ronnie Monroe) of Hot Springs, Ark., Melissa Thies (husband Steven) of Hailey, Idaho, Cecile Landrum (Stephen Waters) of Jefferson City, Mo.; three grandchildren, Andrew Flowers, Madeline Thies, Georgia Thies; and two great-grandchildren, Lucas Flowers and Tucker Flowers. He was preceded in death by: his parents; three sisters; and seven brothers. Friends will be received from 2-4 p.m., Saturday, January 17, 2015, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 4 p.m., Saturday, January 17, 2015, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home, with Rev. Murl Nash officiating. Full Military Honors will follow the service.
