Harlan H. Hoefener, 75, of Jefferson City, passed away Sunday, January 11, 2015, at the Jefferson City Manor Care Center. He was born February 24, 1939, in Latham, Mo., son of Art and Velma (Hall) Hoefener. He was married to Susan (Nichols) Hoefener who survives at the home. Harlan worked at his father's garage in Latham, Mo. He also worked at Bixler's in Tipton, Chesebrough-Ponds, Johnson Controls and Modine in Jefferson City. He worked at the YMCA, Woodman Engineering and Racker's Heating and Cooling. Harlan also had two businesses, Triple H Mechanical and S & H Heating and Cooling. He was a wonderful husband and a man of many talents. He did all the major work on his homes in Latham and in Jefferson City, including all of the heating and air conditioning, electrical, woodwork and painting. Harlan always said "He was a jack of all trades and master of none." He loved to fish and hunt in his early days. He served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany from 1957 -1959. After marriage, he learned to like horses and would go riding with his wife Susan. He also learned to love cats and enjoyed the seven that he and his wife had during their time together. He also enjoyed canoeing, traveling as far as Arkansas and North Carolina to do so. He was a Kansas City Chiefs fan and a St. Louis Cardinal's baseball fan. He also liked MU football and Basketball. He and his wife are members of Southridge Baptist Church in Jefferson City. He is survived by his wife, Susan of the home; sister, Marilyn (Bob) Schatzer of Latham, Mo.; brother, Kenny (Pat) of Jefferson City; sister-in-law, Patti (Kevin) McGartland, of Mexico, Mo. Harlan has 28 nieces and nephews and many other great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Rebecca Sue; his parents; a brother, David; a sister, Lois Jean and her husband James Clifford. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, January 16, at the Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, California, Mo. with the Reverend Rueben Phelps officiating. Burial will be in the Latham cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday, January 15, 2015, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested the Southridge Baptist Church Building Fund or the Callaway Hills Animal Shelter or Jefferson City Animal Shelter.
