Richard L. "Dick" Thompson

Mr. Richard L. "Dick" Thompson, age 65 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away Monday, January 5, 2015, at his family farm in Lohman, Mo. Dick was born October 4, 1949, in Jefferson City, Mo., the son of Henry E. and Mabel M. Schneider Thompson. He was married on December 27, 1975, in Jefferson City, Mo. to Karen A. Link. A lifelong resident of Jefferson City, Dick was a 1967 graduate of Russellville High School and a 1969 graduate of Linn State Technical College. Dick was a lifelong farmer who started working with his dad after college and has been working with his brothers for over 40 years as a crop and cattle farmer. He loved working on the land and taking care of his cattle every morning and night. He was a member of the Central United Church of Christ, a member of the Cole County Farm Bureau, a former member of the Russellville Young Farmers, and a former member of the Jefferson City Jay Band Boosters. In his free time, Dick enjoyed fishing with his grandsons, going on cruises with his family, playing solitaire, gardening, mushroom hunting, watching Jeopardy and waking up early every morning to watch Ag Day. Most importantly, he cherished time with his family including his Miniature Schnauzer, Molly, and his birthday bonfires. Survivors include: his wife of 39 years, Karen Thompson; one son, Henry Clark Thompson of Jefferson City, Mo.; two daughters, Carrie Lynn O'Brien and her husband David of Wildwood, Mo. and Julie Kay Brashears and her husband Ryan of Webb City, Mo.; his mother, Mabel Thompson of Lohman, Mo.; three brothers, Thomas E. Thompson and his wife Judy of Jefferson City, Mo., Harry G. Thompson and his wife Jana of Lohman, Mo., and Mark A. Thompson and his wife Pam of Lohman, Mo.; two grandchildren, Parker Leroy Brashears and Hunter Jon Brashears; his beloved Miniature Schnauzer, Molly; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father. Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m., Friday, January 9, 2015. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 10, 2015 at the Central United Church of Christ with the Reverend Dr. Stephen Buchholz and the Reverend Collette Jones officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Jefferson City Animal Shelter or the Humane Society.
